Sandra C. Fernández was born in Queens, New York and spent her formative years in Quito, Ecuador. She returned to the United States and received a Master of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degrees in Photography, Printmaking and Book Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She has taught for over 20 years at various Universities in the United States, including Illinois State University, State University of New York at Buffalo, Illinois Wesleyan University, and at the University of Texas at Austin, courses in Photography, Printmaking, Artist’s Books, 2D and 3D Foundations. She has been the director of Illinois Wesleyan University’s Gallery in Bloomington, the director of the Guest Artist in Printmaking Program at the University of Texas in Austin, and the director of the Printmaking Center of New Jersey. She is the owner of sfernandez Press & Taller where she maintains an active studio practice.
