About the Competition:

Looking to printmaking’s long history as a vehicle for contentious dialog, Political Impressions will add another chapter in the tradition of artists such as William Hogarth, Thomas Nast, and Jean-Jacques Grandville who taught us ways to say what could not be said. This juried exhibition invites participants to examine current social and political issues through the use of symbolism and satire, wit and whimsy while avoiding anything too “on the nose.” Open to all printmaking methods and political persuasions this exhibition will be a diverse, playful, and thought-provoking experience of laughing through the tears in our turbulent world.


This call for submission is open to all artists 18 years of age and older.  This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all printmaking media. Submissions must be original work, completed within the last 3 years.  No drawings, photographs, or direct reproductions are eligible. Two dimensional and three dimensional printmaking work will be accepted.  Submissions may not exceed 24” x 24” framed.

Entry Fee: 

$30 for Print Club of Rochester members, $35 for non-members for up to 3 images.

Additional images, not to exceed 5 in total, may be added for $5 each.

Miranda Metcalf is the Director of Contemporary Prints and Drawings at Davidson Galleries in Seattle, WA. Davidson Galleries maintains the largest inventory of fine, original prints in the Northwest.  In addition to holding of nearly 20,000 prints and works on paper ranging from the 15th to the 21st century, they hang new exhibits every month.

About the Print Club of Rochester:

The Print Club of Rochester is an organization devoted to the promotion of fine art printmaking. In existence since 1930, it is one of the longest continually running print clubs in the United States. The club offers educational demonstrations, workshops and lectures. Members are invited to participate in our annual juried Members Exhibition.  Membership is open to artists, collectors and print enthusiasts. Since its inception, the Print Club of Rochester has annually commissioned a prominent artist, many of national and international status, to create an original edition of prints for our subscribers.

Application Instructions:

  1. Please pay entry fee through the Paypal link below (There will be a drop down menu with several payment options based on how many images submitted).
  2. Submit 3  – 5 jpeg images no larger than 1200 pixels in any direction.  Label images as:  john_doe_01.jpg,  john_doe_02.jpg, so that they correspond with the the image list.
  3. Submit an Image List: Please include title, medium, dimensions, and date of completion.   
    1. Please include image list in the body of the email as a pdf.

  4. Include a brief artist statement (no more than 100 words) as a PDF file

*If work does not fully reflect what is represented in the submitted images, the Print Club of Rochester reserves the right to exclude it from the exhibition.


Submitted work must be available for the duration of the exhibition. ALL WORKS MUST BE FOR SALE. The Print Club of Rochester will retain a 25% commission of the purchase price on all works sold during the exhibition.

Delivery of accepted work:

Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery by May 25th, 2018 or before to be a part of the exhibition. All entries must be matted, framed and ready to hang.  Artwork that is being shipped must be framed with Plexiglass.

Artwork should be shipped in a reusable container and must be accompanied by a pre-paid return shipping label. Work without a pre-paid shipping label will not be returned until return postage is collected.

All artwork will be handled with due care and respect. The Bevier Gallery and The Print Club of Rochester are not responsible for loss or damage to entries. Entry by artist confirms acceptance of these conditions.  The Print Club of Rochester has the right to photograph any accepted work for purposes of publicity.
